A mole, also known as melanocytic nevus is a pigmented growth of the skin. They can be from flesh color, to brown and black. They may belong to the junctional, intradermal or compound nevus family. Beauty marks are usually from the compound nevi family. As you know, some of the most beautiful models have moles and are proud of them. One in about 100 babies are born with moles. Most of them are harmless and some may even disappear later in life.

The time to be concerned about moles is when they start to become tender and bleed easily, change color and size. If you have noticed that your moles have been changing, it is best to consult with your doctor to find out if it is becoming malignant and can possibly be cancerous. To get rid of the mole, the doctor may freeze it with liquid nitrogen then shave it away with a scalpel. In case where the mole is quite deep, an incision may be made to remove it with the root. The skin will be stitched back together afterwards and that method may leave a scar however.
